A BELOVED MILANESE RITUAL

Sant Ambroeus introduces The Art of the Aperitivo, a ritual inspired by the cafés and bars of Milan where locals gather over small plates and drinks.

As a brand rooted in Milan, aperitivo has always been part of our culture. We bring that tradition forward through a dedicated menu of Milanese-inspired bites, wine and cocktails, created to celebrate one of Italy’s most beloved daily rituals.

APERITIVO BITES

A curated selection of Milanese culinary tradition. Each bite celebrates quality ingredients and time-honored techniques. Crispy Risotto is paired with Mazara del Vallo shrimp tartare, while Yellow Tail Crudo is finished simply with citronette and chives. Polpettine, traditional Milanese meatballs, are served with tomato sauce and salsa verde, and Vitellino Tonnato pairs slow-roasted veal tenderloin with a classic Yellowfin tuna sauce. Designed for sharing, each dish brings a taste of the Milanese aperitivo tradition to the table.               Available at Sant Ambroeus locations in New York, Hamptons and Palm Beach. Our Milan and Paris locations feature their own distinct menus and offerings.

APERITIVO DRINKS

Alongside our bites, cocktails, wines and spritzes are thoughtfully selected to reflect the spirit of the Milanese aperitivo, each chosen to complement the flavors of the menu.

The Italian Tradition of Aperitivo

The history of the aperitivo can be traced back to eighteenth century Turin where distiller Antonio Benedetto Carpano created vermouth by combining fortified wine with local herbs. Over time, the love of vermouth, amongst other aperitivo drinks like Campari, spread to Milan. By the early twentieth century, enjoying aperitivo drinks and dishes was a widely practiced ritual in local piazzas, cafès, and osterias throughout the Italian capital.
